A quartet of Rebecca Sherwin, Amelia Clynes, Layla Black and Georgia Coates recorded a time of 4:09.10 to clinch the final podium spot, more than four seconds faster than their qualifying time and 0.29 seconds in front of fourth-placed Germany.
Shortly after the event, the team spoke to Sports Mole about their achievement and how they were inspired by another successful day in the pool for Team GB.
Sherwin: “It’s been absolutely amazing. We just went in hoping to get a medal and we came out with one. It’s been absolutely amazing to race with these guys and when all the hard work pays off it’s an amazing feeling. I can’t really put it into words.”
Sherwin: “Yeah, we switched three people from the heats to the final, so we weren’t sure how it was going to work. But it really paid off and it was great.”
Coates: “When I went to do the takeover I knew it was going to be close. Russia were already far ahead but there were three teams that were very close. I just knew that I had to give everything.
