Roche: Things are looking up | News | SportsWomen | Sky Sports

Roche shot to fame earlier this year after finishing runner-up to James Rodriguez in FIFA’s 2014 Puskas Goal of the Season award for her stunning volley for Irish side Peamount United.

Roche signed for the Houston Dash in February, but she made just two appearances for the US side before her contract was terminated when the club exceeded their foreign player quota by signing Australian defender Ellie Brush and Brazilian Camila.

Despite this, the Republic of Ireland international is philosophical about the experience after joining FA Women’s Super League 1 side Sunderland Ladies:

“I was obviously enjoying my time in Houston. Things were going well. It ended up being unfortunate for me. But on the other hand, I’m here at Sunderland now. I’ve got the opportunity to play in the WSL and hopefully things will work out for the best.

Roche is now determined to move on with her new team, who currently sit in fourth place in the FA WSL 1 table: “It’s a great club and they’re doing very well this year,” she added.
