TRIATHLON Caroline Steffen bags gold in women’s Ironman 70.3

 

TRIATHLON Caroline Steffen bags gold in women\'s Ironman 70.3 SUBIC, Zambales — Swiss national Caroline Steffen is the 2016 women’s Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay champion after she completed the grueling race in 04:09:40, Sunday, in Subic.

A former member of the Swiss national cycling team, the 38-year-old Steffen was only three seconds behind in swimming against second placer and crowd favorite Radka Vodickova, who finished the race at second in 04:14:51.

Steffen then bested Vodickova in biking and running to grab the triathlon championship this year.

Australian Dimity Duke came in at third place, completing the course in 04:23:51 while Katheyn Haesner finished at 4th in 04:35:38. Bree Wee of America crossed the finish line in 04:36:36 to make it to the top five. — APG, GMA News
