Scottish country sports to try and dispel 'elite' image and attract more women

Scotland’s country sports industry is to try and dispel perceptions that they are dominated by a wealthy elite and ordinary people cannot afford to take part, under a new official strategy.

The ‘Game for Growth’ blueprint, which aims to increase the value of country sports to the Scottish economy by £30 million over the next three years, also highlighted the need to attract more women and young Scots to activities such as stalking and grouse shooting.

The document warned there “are perceptions of elitism and high cost of participation in some areas” and said one of its key aims “is to dispel such outmoded perceptions of the industry.”

It said accessibility to country sports must be increased, with providers publicising that opportunities exist “to suit all budgets, ranging from as little as £2 per day to £10,000 per week and more.”[…]
